Small Exploration Groups
Work through unhelpful money patterns in a supportive space with like-minded professionals
Find out moreYou Want to Shift Your Relationship with Money But It Is Hard to Do Alone
Maybe you have already explored your relationship with money, noticed your patterns, and tried shifting your mindset. But in your day-to-day practice, the same dilemmas keep showing up: hesitating to increase your fee, dreading cancellations, and feeling uncomfortable talking about money. Awareness and good intentions do not always translate into lasting change.
Or perhaps you have not looked at this before, but you know it is an area that deserves attention and would like to begin that journey.
Many of us do not have regular opportunities to reflect on financial dilemmas in supportive settings. When we carry the weight alone, it can lead to self-doubt, emotional fatigue, and a growing sense of discouragement. Without support it is easy to stay stuck in old patterns and struggle with momentum for change.
My Small Exploration Groups help you keep moving toward a more sustainable practice by combining my guidance with the shared support of others on a similar path.
A Structured, Supportive Space to Go Deeper
My Small Exploration Groups are a safe, psychologist-led space where you can explore the emotional side of money in your business with other professionals. They are part of building a more open culture around financial issues within our professional communities
I have developed them to:
- Help you reflect more deeply on your relationship with money
- Support structured work on shifting particularly stubborn patterns
- Expand your thinking through the insights of other group members
- Offer validation through shared experience
- Increase motivation and accountability with encouragement from peers
- Reduce feelings of isolation and help you feel more connected
- Offer a sense of community that empowers you to build a more rewarding and sustainable practice

How it works
- Join a Small, Supportive GroupComplete a simple onboarding process (details to be confirmed). Then meet weekly online with a small group of 6–8 like-minded practitioners. Each session is guided by me, Dr Katja Windheim, and will take place on Thursdays.
- Explore, Reflect, and ConnectWe will look at how your money story shapes your responses to financial dilemmas in the here and now. This process is guided by an EMDR-informed coaching approach and supported by reflection, group discussion, and shared insight from your fellow group members.
- Feel Empowered to Build a More Sustainable PracticeAs the group process unfolds, you will begin to change unhelpful patterns and feel more confident in making financial decisions. Your emotional well-being will be enhanced, and your practice start to flourish. As things shift internally and your financial health improves, you will find more room for creativity and a deeper sense of satisfaction with your work and yourself.
Want to Go Further?
My Reflective Workshops provide a solid foundation for gaining confidence around money in your business. They are a great place to start if you are new to this work. And if you have already completed one, you might find others that interest you or explore different themes.
My Deep Dives are designed to complement Reflective Workshops, offering additional and more targeted content for themes or dilemmas that might feel unresolved.
What Sets These Small Exploration Groups Apart
- Psychologist-LedThese groups are facilitated by a clinical psychologist. They are grounded in clinical expertise and experience and offer a space that feels safe, professionally contained, and guided with the kind of insight that helps reflection lead to meaningful change.
- Emotionally Informed and Ethically AwareThese groups make space for the emotional and relational challenges that money can bring and the ethical dilemmas practitioners face when navigating fees, payment boundaries, and values in real-world settings.
- EMDR-Informed ApproachThese groups are based on an EMDR-informed coaching model that supports deeper internal shifts and not just surface-level mindset change. I bring 20 years of experience using EMDR in clinical practice and am an EMDR Consultant in Training.
- Connection and Shared InsightYou will share the group space with others who can relate to your challenges. This connection, through stories, diverse perspectives, and encouragement, can ease isolation and become a powerful catalyst for change.
- Created from Real-Life ExperienceDesigned by a clinical psychologist who understands the emotional complexity of money and the everyday realities of juggling financial, emotional, and ethical tensions in an independent practice.
- Informed by the Psychology of MoneyAlongside clinical expertise, I bring an interest in the psychology of money and a willingness to talk openly about it. I believe helping professionals need more honest conversations about financial realities and that practitioners deserve better in terms of recognising and charging their worth.
FAQs
Who are these groups for?
The Small Exploration Groups have been developed for self-employed helping professionals who want to reflect more deeply on their relationship with money in a supportive setting.
How many people will be in each group?
Groups are kept small and have around 6–8 participants, to allow for meaningful reflection, shared discussion, and peer support.
What is the format of the group?
The groups have a focus on completing structured activities and exercises, with some space for open, reflective discussion. I believe this approach is most effective in supporting meaningful change and helping you move forward.
How long does the group run for?
Each group meets weekly for 6–8 sessions (final duration and session lengths to be confirmed).
What is your role as a facilitator of the group?
My role will be to manage boundaries, facilitate discussions and keep the sessions focused. I will lead you through some structured exercises and aim to create a safe and supportive group atmosphere.
Is this group therapy?
No, this is not a therapy group. The Small Exploration Groups are reflective, EMDR-informed spaces designed to support professional and personal growth. They are not intended as a substitute for therapy or crisis support.
Will these groups include financial advice or business coaching?
No, these groups are not designed to provide financial advice or business coaching. The focus is on reflective exploration, understanding your relationship with money, and supporting meaningful change through psychologically informed group work.
Can I attend if I am in a financial crisis or significant debt?
These groups are not designed to provide financial advice or crisis support. If you are in significant debt or financial crisis, you may find more immediate benefit from specialist debt advice services, who can offer practical guidance tailored to your situation.
In the UK, you can contact:
- StepChange Debt Charity – free expert advice and debt solutions
- National Debtline – free, confidential, and independent advice
- Citizens Advice – practical support with debt, benefits, and financial difficulties
Once you feel more stable, you might then find it helpful to join a group like this to reflect on the emotional and relational aspects of money in your professional life.
What if I have a significant trauma history?
Many people bring aspects of their personal history into their relationship with money, and these groups are designed to support reflection on those links in a safe and contained way. If you have a significant or complex trauma history that you have not yet worked on in therapy and that still has a strong impact on your daily life, a small reflective group may not be the safest or most effective place to start. In that situation, a specialist therapy is usually a better first step.
If you are unsure whether a group would be right for you, feel free to get in touch and we can think it through together. And if needed, I can help signpost you to more suitable therapeutic support.
Can I attend if I am in acute distress or experiencing a mental health crisis?
These groups are not designed to provide crisis support. If you are currently in acute distress or experiencing a mental health crisis, you are likely to need more immediate, one-to-one support rather than a reflective group setting.
If you are based in the UK and need urgent help, you can:
- Call 999 if you feel unsafe or unable to keep yourself safe
- Contact your GP or local NHS crisis team for urgent mental health support
- Call Samaritans on 116 123 (free, available 24/7)
Once you feel more stable, you may then find a group like this helpful for reflecting on the emotional and relational aspects of money in your professional life.
What is expected of me as a group member, and will I have to share personal details?
You are expected to attend regularly and on time, as a courtesy to other group members and to ensure you get full benefit of each session. You are encouraged to engage with the group process and activities but will not be required to share more than you feel comfortable with. Respectful listening and openness to reflection are also important.
Is what I say in the group kept confidential?
Group members are expected to respect each other’s confidentiality by not sharing information discussed in the group outside of it. While absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed, I find that participants are usually respectful of each other’s privacy. Confidentiality guidelines will be discussed in the first session.
What if I miss a session?
While regular attendance is encouraged to get the most out of the group, I understand that life happens. If you need to miss a session, please let me know in advance. Catch-up resources can be offered where appropriate. Unfortunately, the fee for the missed session cannot be refunded.
Do I need previous EMDR experience to take part?
No prior EMDR experience is required. All reflective exercises and group work will be introduced and explained, and the space is open to practitioners from all backgrounds.
How much does it cost, and what is the payment structure?
The group fee is a one-off price for the entire series of sessions (to be confirmed). Payment plans will be available. Please note that missed sessions are not refundable.
